Widely recognized as the preeminent leader in hospitality certification, the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) strongly supports and encourages the certification of hospitality professionals in all facets of the industry, including:

In order to become certified by AHLEI, you must meet the knowledge and experience requirements and successfully complete a certification examination. Certification examinations are available through AHLEI year-round using computerized adaptive testing or traditional print testing.

    The Hotel Industry Foundations and Introduction to Analytics (HIFIA) is jointly offered by STR, the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) and the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (ICHRIE). 

    "Hotel Industry Foundations and Introduction to Analytics" builds a solid foundation and provides a thorough introduction to the math required by a hotel or tourism industry professional, to the reports that are used and to the analytic skills. The HIFIA also helps students appreciate that the hotel and tourism industry relies heavily upon data and the ability to analyze that data.

    Congratulations to all the recipients who have completed the HIFIA. 

    Attention Instructors:
    Prepare to present the training by attending a Train-the-Trainer session for HIFIA which covers the training content, to include hotel industry affiliations, categorizations, benchmarking, and an introduction to hotel math and industry reports.

    Recertification begins the day a candidate earns his or her certification, and designees hold their certification for only five years. During that time they must: maintain their qualifying position within the industry; earn points by fulfilling various activity requirements based on the level of involvement and time spent doing the activity. The categories for which points are awarded include:

    • Professional Development Activities/Seminars
    • Industry Related Involvement
    • Educational Services

    • Completion of any American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) hospitality management courses provides 5 points toward the recertification point total.     A candidate may elect to sit for the examination to earn their recertification in lieu of the points system. The candidate must achieve a minimum score of 75% on the CHA and CLSD exams, and 70% on all other exams in order to recertify.

    Recertification fees* are $200 each for Executive Level and Department Head Level; $100 each for CHRM and CHSP. Candidates who recertify are required to remit payment, complete a maintenance activity form, submit all supporting documentation, and sign the maintenance agreement - agreeing to all terms.
