      EI Promotes Behrendt to Vice President, Sales

      Lansing, Michigan, October 2010 - The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI) has promoted Mari Behrendt, CMHS, to the position of vice president of sales. In this new role, Behrendt will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of all of EI's sales departments, including academic, industry, specialized markets, distance learning, high schools, and workforce development. She will work closely with EI president and CEO Robert L. Steele III, CHA, and senior vice president of sales Brenda Moons to implement the sales goals and strategies for the organization. She will continue to work from EI's Lansing, Michigan office.

      Behrendt was named vice president, academic programs, for EI in January 2007. She began working at EI in 1983 as a word processing technician, and joined the sales/marketing department in 1986. There, she worked with academic institutions, including HEPs, GAPs, and international schools.

      In 1998, Behrendt was promoted to Manager, Academic Programs, and a year later, to Director of the department. In those roles, she oversaw sales and service to domestic and Canadian post-secondary schools, as well as EI's Distance Learning program. She serves on EI's Curriculum Committee and is a member of AH&LEF's Scholarship Committee.
      Before coming to EI, Behrendt, a native of Alpena, Michigan, previously worked at Michigan State University in the Statistics Department. Her post-secondary education includes business classes at Lansing Community College.
