Educational Institute Honors Schrader as Outstanding High School Teacher

Orlando, Florida June 2013—Virginia Schrader, hospitality management and marketing teacher at Kennett High School in North Conway, New Hampshire, is the 2013 recipient of the Lamp of Knowledge Award for Outstanding High School Teacher, presented by the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI). Schrader received the award during the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) Summer Summit in Houston during the Stars of the Industry Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, June 19.

Schrader’s ability to inspire young people to consider a career in hospitality comes from her own life experience—she began her hospitality career as a teen working at Miami’s Fountainbleau Hotel. Her industry experience has included operations, management, consulting, and ownership, so she is able to teach her students about all aspects of hospitality. This year, her school’s hospitality team won their state competition and represented New Hampshire at the 2013 Lodging Management Program International Competition hosted by the Educational Institute. During the summers when she is not teaching, Schrader operates a cycling tour company that offers bikes tours including the Grand Hotels of New Hampshire Bicycle Tour.
