Educational Institute Honors Tony Farris with CHA Emeritus Award

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, June 11, 2008 - Tony Farris, CHA, chairman and CEO of Quorum Hotels & Resorts, has been named CHA Emeritus by the certification commission and board of trustees of the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute. Farris received the award during the AH&LA Summer Summit in Oklahoma City, during the AH&LA Stars of the Industry Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, June 11.
Those who earn the title of CHA Emeritus have made significant contributions to the hospitality industry through their leadership, education, and professional involvement. The career of a CHA Emeritus is marked by distinguished achievement in all facets of the industry, signifying a commitment to the past, present, and future of the hospitality environment. The CHA Emeritus is presented only to select Certified Hotel Administrators after a career of distinguished achievement. This is not an annual award; it is bestowed only when EI's Certification Commission and Board of Trustees wish to recognize a candidate who has shaped the industry through his or her professional and personal contributions.
Farris is the long-time former chairman of the board of trustees for the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute, as well as former chairman of the board of the American Hotel Foundation and co-chairman of the (then) AH&MA's selection committee of financial management and the audit committee of AH&MA. He holds the professional designation of Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
In 1987, Farris formed a partnership with the Rank Group Plc, which resulted in the creation of Rank Hotels North America. The company was renamed Quorum Hotels & Resorts in November 1994. Before this, Farris spent 12 years with Metro Hotels, a Dallas-based hotel development and management company. He last served as executive vice president of operations and was responsible for the company's hotels, independent restaurants, and hotel development efforts. Previously, he worked for several years as Metro Hotels' chief financial officer.
Before joining Metro Hotels, Farris served with ITT-South Florida Development as chief financial officer and with ITT Sheraton as controller of the Sheraton British Colonial. Farris also held various management positions with a Dallas-based hotel company that owned the Adolphus Hotel in Dallas, the Stoneleigh Hotel in Dallas, the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, the Emerald Beach Hotel in Nassau, Bahamas, and the Hong Kong Hilton.
