This introductory accounting textbook (formerly titled Basic Hotel and Restaurant Accounting) accentuates the interrelationship between business principles and accounting. The information presented is based on the most recent uniform systems of accounts for hotels and restaurants. It uses computerized general ledger accounting as the basis for processing financial data. The text also contains several introductory managerial accounting chapters to prepare readers for future accounting courses.
The seventh edition includes new information on the role of accounting in successful business decision making, fair value accounting, feasibility studies, and buying a franchise. Two new chapters cover depreciation and amortization and business math for hospitality managers.
A student workbook, Hotel and Restaurant Accounting, Exercises in Accounting, is also available for purchase. It features chapter-by-chapter activities related to the text, including multiple-choice, true/false, definitions, and computations. Students get practice with a variety of hotel and restaurant accounting procedures and transactions. A Solutions Manual is available at no charge to instructors.
