The Wren at Vail Earns Certified Guest Service Property Designation

Orlando, Florida, March 2013—The Wren at Vail, a 60-room, interval ownership property and hotel, has been awarded the designation of Certified Guest Service Property, after seven of its front-line employees went through the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute’s Guest Service Gold training program and earned the Certified Guest Service Professional (CGSP) designation.

“This is an easy investment in our staff and in our property,” said Derek Schmidt, general manager of The Wren. “We want to help our staff advance in their hospitality careers. Offering continuing training and development like Guest Service Gold is one way to make our staff feel valuable.”

The Wren’s commitment to staff development through professional certification extends throughout the property. Schmidt is currently working on earning the Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) designation, while the property’s executive housekeeper is working on the Certified Hospitality Housekeeping Executive (CHHE) and the housekeeping supervisor is working on the Certified Hospitality Supervisor (CHS).

He added that enhancing the property’s guest service is a good way to set it apart from the competition.

“If you are a small property, like we are, Guest Service Gold and the Certified Guest Service Property certification are readily achievable goals.” said Schmidt. “Exceptional service is one of our niches. We like to consider ourselves a three-star property with five-star service.”

The Wren at Vail is the first property of East West Resorts management company to earn the Certified Guest Service Property designation, but Schmidt noted that another property has recently begun training its staff with Guest Service Gold.

“Our front line is setting the bar for our company,” he stated proudly.
