Today's successful security officers must have the knowledge to effectively handle routine security activities and emergencies as well as sound judgment, and practical skills. They must keep pace with change, improve their knowledge, and share their experience with others.

The Certified Lodging Security Officer (CLSO)  designation provides recognition for these skills. Recognized worldwide, the CLSO  designation is the lodging industry's highest acknowledgment of professionalism for security officers in the hospitality industry.

Who should apply? Lodging Security Officer

Certified Lodging Security Officer (CLSO) uniquely integrates three training functions:

  • Skill and Knowledge Training is the responsibility of property management and the participant. The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute can provide training resources which will assist employees in the training and development process.
  • Performance Assessment and Testing validates the training has occurred and that performance standards have been met. With the written test, we strive to verify an employee's knowledge, application and performance of specified job duties.
  • Recognition and Achievement provides the positive acknowledgement that the employee has attained a standard in their performance. Successful completion of the program components is recognized with a certificate and lapel pin.

The CLSO designation may be used on letterhead, business cards, and other writings. The CLSO lapel pin and certificate are the visible symbols of the holder's status and achievement.

This certification meets the requirements for stackable and portable certifications for Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) grant purposes. Visit our  Workforce Training  page to learn more about our workforce resources.
