The hospitality industry constantly changes, so hospitality professionals must continually advance their knowledge and skills. For this reason, certification designees hold their certification for only five years.

Note: New virtual options have been added for acquiring points.
During the next five years, the designee must:
- Maintain their qualifying position within the industry
- Note: If you are low on points because of a gap in employment due to the pandemic, you can still upload your resume with employment dates using our new digital application process and our certification team will work with you on a case-by-case basis to determine eligibility.
- Earn points by fulfilling activity requirements
Points are earned for:
- Professional experience
- Professional development activities/seminars
- Industry-related involvement
- Educational services
- Online courses
- Attendance at industry-affiliated tradeshows, conferences, or conventions
Other ways to earn recertification points include:
- Complete any AHLEI hospitality management course online. They provide five points toward the recertification total.
- Earn points for attending any industry-affiliated tradeshow, conference, or convention.

Recertification fees* are $200 each for Executive Level and Department Head Level; $100 each for CHRM and CHSP.
A late fee of $25 needs to be paid for any application submitted more than 5 years past the last certificate issued.
You may purchase your digital recertification application at any time before the expiration date. To recertify, candidates must pay the fee and complete a recertification application, submitting all supporting documentation.
Once recertified, a new certificate will be available under the Certificates/Results tab on your Learning and Exams dashboard.
