The internationally-recognized Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE®) certification recognizes the teaching ability of hospitality educators at the college level.

This intensive workshop covers the following topics:

  • Discussing student, teacher, and course evaluations
  • Designing a course syllabus
  • Writing complete instructional objectives
  • Employing appropriate methods for ending a class
  • Selecting appropriate interactive teaching methods
  • Identifying and employing effective classroom communication methods
  • Distinguishing appropriate learning levels for instructional objectives
  • Identifying general learning outcomes
  • Establishing a positive classroom culture
  • Demonstrating effective personal presentation style in the classroom
  • Applying appropriate content presentation methods
  • Demonstrating the appropriate use of support media

Prerequisites


Qualifying Position

Post-Secondary Hospitality Educator

(In addition to having previous experience in the hospitality industry on a managerial or supervisory level).

Position Examples

Novice teachers, seasoned professors, industry professionals serving as adjunct instructors or lecturers at a college or university.

Time in Position

 A

  • Be currently employed full time as a post-secondary hospitality educator, with at least two years of experience in one or more such positions
  • Have at least a four year degree or international diploma from an approved institution
  • Have at least two years of full-time professional experience in the hospitality industry, with a minimum of one year in a managerial or supervisory position

B

  • Be currently employed full time or part time as a post-secondary hospitality educator
  • Have at least five years of full-time professional experience in the hospitality industry, with a minimum of two years in a managerial or supervisory position

How to Obtain Certification


  • Purchase your application, study guide, and exam package
  • Complete and submit your application and supporting documents
  • Upon approval, access resource materials
  • Connect with a proctor to complete your exam

How to Apply


Upon purchase, you will be required to complete an online application to ensure you meet the prerequisites. Until your application is approved, you will be unable to access the exam preparation resource materials that are part of your purchase.

To apply:

  1. After checkout, check your order confirmation email and click on the "Apply Online" link.
  2. Upon logging into the system, you can select the "Launch" button to begin your application.
  3. Follow the instructions and steps provided.
  4. Provide correct documentation and required references. Have these documents available for upload:
    • Current Resume
    • Job Description
    • Copy of diploma or transcripts
    • Any previous AHLEI certification certificates
  5. Following response by references, open and submit application.

Following application approval, your exam preparation resource materials will become available under “My Learning & Exams.” If your application is denied, you will be entitled to a refund of your entire package.

Finding a Proctor

You will need to connect with a proctor and register for a proctored exam session before you see the exam under the “My Learning and Exams” dashboard. Follow the prompts to identify a proctor.

NOTE: Proctors will need to follow an approval process. When you have identified a proctor, be sure to share the proctor approval process.

Once your proctor schedules an exam session, they will send you and enrollment link, select enroll and you can access your exam under Proctored Exams on your Learning and Exam dashboard. On the day of the exam, select Launch exam, your Proctor will enter in the Exam Session password and your exam will start.

Results

Once you have submitted your exam, you will receive a pass/fail notification. Once your Proctor has closed out the Exam Session you’ll see your exam results/certificate under the Certificate/Results tab on your Learning and Exam dashboard.

Upon passing the exam, you will be granted access to your digital certification certificate. You will also be sent a CHE pin and printed certificate.

Certifications are valid for 5 years.

You may purchase your digital recertification application at any time before the expiration date. To recertify, candidates must pay the fee and complete a recertification application, submitting all supporting documentation. The recertification fee* is $200. (Prices are subject to change without notice.) Candidates who apply to recertify past the 5-year mark are subject to a late fee.
